As I mentioned in my previous blog post, I recently decided that I wanted to join a Pre-Medical Fraternity. I chose to do this mainly because I wanted to have a community of Pre-Medical students that could guide me during my undergraduate years. And also to have life long friends that I knew would always support me and also shared my passion for medicine.
Rushing a Pre-Med frat consists of 4 main parts: An information session, a Meet and Greet, and Application, and an Interview. During the Information Session, each frat will explain what it means to be a member of their frat while demonstrating the activities they host and the commitment level. Then there is a Meet and Greet where the members get to chat with rushees and decide whether or

not they would be a good fit for a new member. Then rushees can choose to submit an application including personal information, personal statements, and a copy of their Resume and Unofficial Transcript. Lastly, there is an interview where the fraternity tests how dedicated rushees are to medicine by asking questions on their motivations, their awareness of the four pillars of medical ethics, and their knowledge of current events in the medical field.
There are two rush processes throughout the school year: fall rush and winter rush (I participated in the latter). At my school there are four pre-medical fraternities but only two of them participated in winter rush. These fraternities were Phi Chi and Phi Delta Epsilon (PhiDE). The other two fraternities are Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED) and Delta Epsilon Mu (DEM), which are technically Pre-Health fraternities and are more inclusive to Pre-Public Health students, Pre-Nursing students, Pre-Dental students etc.
I attended the information sessions for both Phi Chi and PhiDE. The PhiDE and the Phi Chi information sessions were very different. PhiDE's presentation was much longer and I really got a feel of what it's like to be a part of their "phamily", but Phi Chi's presentation was super short and was too logistical to peak my interest. Because of this I chose not to go further in the rush process with Phi Chi.
After this, I attended PhiDE's Meet and Greet. While I was there, I continued to see how close all of the PhiDE members were to each other and how loving and accepting they all were. I was able to discuss why I am passionate about medicine, and learned about others motivations as well. I am very grateful for this experience and am excited for the opportunity to rush again in the fall.
